Blog | Watch President Jimmy Carter’s Remarks this Week to the 2017 WHO’s Global Partners Meeting in Geneva on Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs)

Watch the video below to hear former U.S. President Jimmy Carter’s remarks at the 2017 World Health Organization’s Global Partners Meeting in Geneva on the worldwide effort to reduce the burden of neglected tropical diseases (NTDs).

“Our collaborative effort to reduce the burden of Neglected Tropical Diseases sends a message of hope to all people, but most especially to those who are marginalized,” President Carter said in his video message. “Our message is, basically: You are important, and your family should have the opportunity to live healthy and productive lives.”

Themed “Collaborate. Accelerate. Eliminate,” the event will recognize the achievements of the past decade in controlling these poverty-related diseases. It aims to sustain support towards the 2020 WHO Roadmap targets, call on partners to facilitate availability of resources needed beyond 2020, and reflect on the progress made since the first partners meeting in 2007, which marked a ‘turning point’ in global efforts to eliminate NTDs.

“ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ will not give up until the last guinea worm is gone,” President Carter concluded, urging viewers to join him in accomplishing this goal. “Our world is a better place because you care, and because you translate your compassion into action.”
