Live Webcast with President and Mrs. Carter Set for Sept. 21

ATLANTA….A live webcast with former U.S. President Jimmy Carter and former First Lady Rosalynn Carter will kick off the 2004-2005 season of the international issues discussion series Conversations at ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ, Tuesday, Sept. 21, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. The webcast is free to the public on the ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ Web site: www.cartercenter.org.

The first of four scheduled Conversations, the sold-out event at the Center's headquarters in Atlanta will include briefings by the couple on ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ projects around the world, including initiatives in disease eradication, conflict resolution, democracy-building, and mental health promotion. ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ Executive Director Dr. John Hardman will moderate.

According to Deanna Congileo, the Center's Director of Public Information, the webcast will provide an opportunity for online participants to experience the popular events in real-time.

"This is the first time ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ has offered a live webcast of Conversations. Our goal is to make these programs available to viewers from around the world and to share both the expertise of our panelists and the important work the Center continues to undertake to promote peace and health," she said.

All events will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ's Ivan Allen Pavilion and webcast live on www.cartercenter.org.

The 2004-2005 Conversations schedule also includes:

  • The State of World Conflict, Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2005
  • Children's Mental Health: Navigating the System, Thursday, April 14, 2005

Conversations at ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ is an annual series of evening programs designed to increase public awareness on issues of national and global importance. Each of the programs will feature distinguished experts, special guests, and ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ staff, followed by a question-and-answer period.

Note: The maximum number of reservations has been reached for all Conversations events at the Center, and the waiting list for the Sept. 21 event has been filled. To place your name on the waiting lists for any of the remaining three events, call 404-420-3804. You will be contacted only if tickets become available. You may also come to ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ on the night of the Conversations event for last-minute openings, although seats are not guaranteed. There is no charge for tickets for the last three Conversations.
